SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

2017 – 2020 …

1 RULES

1.1 All races will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing ( 2017-2020), the prescriptions of the RYA, the RYA charter & the Rules for the Class (es) Racing.

2 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

Notices to competitors will be posted on the Official club notice board located near on the wall of the main wetside room, or club notice board outside.

3 CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted 30 minutes before the start of any race affected.

4 SIGNALS

4.1 All signals will be made from the committee boat / platform / jetty OR combination of them

4.2 For all series, the club will use a single mast with 5 differently coloured triangular pennants. All five will be raised at the 5 minute signal, and one dropped at minute intervals. The start is when no pennants are visible

4.3 At any time the recognised ISAF flag method for race starting may be used

5 SCHEDULE OF RACES

5.1 The first warning signal will be decided by The Race Officer for the day.

5.2.1 Race 1 Summer will start at approximately 1100hrs

5.2.2 Race 1 Autumn / Winter will start at approximately 1200hrs

5.3 Races 2 & 3 may be raced back to back. To be confirmed on the day.

5.4 After a long postponement, to alert boats that a race, will begin soon, the horn or audible sounder MAY be sounded a number of times.

6 THE COURSES

6.1 The course will be displayed on the side of the committee boat OR jetty OR club course board on the outside of the building .

7 MARKS

    1. The course marks are yellow & blue in colour, spherical in shape.

8 THE START

8.1 The starting line will be between the main mast, flying the starting flags and an outer limit mark OR as notified by the OOD

9 THE FINISH

9.1 The finishing line will be between the committee boat and a mark of the course, normally the F buoy.

    1. Shortening course. As defined as rule 32.2(a)

10 PENALTIES

    1. The penalties are as defined in 44.1 & 44.2

11 TIME LIMITS

There are no time limits at the time of writing.

12 PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS

12.1 Protest forms are available at the OOD. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit.

12.2 Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the protest room, located at within the building, to commence at the time posted.

13 SCORING

13.1 The low point scoring system RRS Appendix A will apply.

14 EQUIPMENT AND MEASUREMENT CHECKS

A boat or equipment may be inspected at any time for compliance with the class rules and sailing instructions. On the water, a boat can be instructed by a race committee equipment inspector or measurer to proceed immediately to a designated area for inspection.

15 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in Club Racing entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the racing.

30 INSURANCE

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000 for any one accident.
